My Story

My book and this website would not have come to be if I had not had a stroke in 2015. That gave me the time and motivation to write. My brother actually put the thought of writing in my head. At first I thought of writing about my experience treating myself with scalp acupuncture. But putting my understanding of how acupuncture works did not seem to fit. So I started writing another book which turned to to be the book I finally got published. The doctor in my first rehab center would not let me treat my self. So I lost 6 weeks of therapy when it would have done the most good. Even then when I went to the second rehab facility, I started treating myself and was waking up a muscle every 2 or 3 treatments. But that did not help as much as the 6 weeks would have. As a result, I am left with little use of my left arm and can hardly walk well. So even though I can’t do my handyman job any more (yes, I was a handyman too, I could build or fix just about anything). And knowing how things work made me a very good handyman. But fortunately I can do acupuncture with one hand. And I can write. And knowing how acupuncture works has made me a very good acupuncturist, giving me more treatments to use and more ways to treat more things. than you ever could. I couldn’t work at all for two years as I learned to walk again. So I stayed productive by writing. So eventually, I had to start all over once I was well enough to give treatments. And I am still good at it. I always was. And then the Pandemic hit. So I continued to work on my book and try to get it published while I tried to get my clinic up and running again. All while trying to take care of my house and deal with my renters. And dealing with my disability. But it felt good to feel useful. And writing I could share my knowledge from being in practice since 1990. Now my practice is starting to pick up. And I have plenty of projects to keep me busy. I am trying to write my first research proposal. And I am looking at the resistance between acupuncture points. And then there are the acupuncture machines I am designing and trying to build. And have you tried to solder with one hand? It is not easy and is slowing me down compared to what I used to be able to do. And then there are the new treatments I am trying to develop. So you see, I am not letting my disability to slow me down much. But it is still very frustrating. Especially knowing I could have fixed myself if they let me. So you can thank a stroke for this website and my book. When doing research for my first book, I learn about Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) and have since incorporated it into my practice. And I have gotten my second book “Scientific Acupuncture” published. It describes all the types of treatments I use in my clinic, how to do them correctly and how they work. And I believe I am the first to wright about the role of structured water in the functioning of acupuncture. Even it’s role in the possible formation of the meridians (and even the lymphatic vessels for that matter). And I’m still coming up with new treatments. My most recent ones are a treatment for degenerative eye diseases. Did you know that cataracts are a degenerative condition? I didn’t until I had a reason to study it. I then I realized that it should be easy to slow or stop it’s progression. Macular Degeneration is a little more complicated due the two types ((wet and dry) But I even have a possible easy explanation of that. And now I have come up with a way to treat skin infections to prevent them from spreading. Any infection, even antibiotic resistant ones. Life can be interesting, don’t you think?

Why I created this Website

I have always liked to know how things work. That is why I studied engineering first. When I became an acupuncturist, I brought that curiosity with me. Being an electrical engineer I was particularly interested in the electrical properties of acupuncture points. And electro diagnostic methods developed in Germany. Those interests brought me to know about the work of Dr. Nordenstrom and the French researchers Dr. Darras and Dr. DeVernajoul. I also read about Dr. Beckers work. And after practicing for 26 years I finally had a comprehensive and sensible understanding of how acupuncture really works scientifically. It took another 4 years to put that knowledge into book form. I then decided to make the how it works available to anyone interested by creating this website. The usual description of how it works tells only part of the story. And even that part is not described adequately. My understanding is not only theoretical, but is backed up by clinical experience. In particular I have developed several treatments based on this knowledge that have proven to work. You can doubt me all you want, but you will find my explanations easy to understand and sensible. And you will find my treatments do work when applied correctly. Sure, you can stick to what you learned in school. But the information contained in these pages will make you a better acupuncturist. You will learn how to make your treatments work better and more consistently. You will learn how to treat more conditions and some better/faster. You will learn how to treat things without using needles at all. And you will know why things work the way they do. That is true scientific acupuncture.

And there will be more to come as I figure out how to answer other questions I have. Like what pumps the extra cellular fluid in the meridians? Currently my thinking it is related to either the movement of the heart pumping or the lungs, diaphragm or rib cage during breathing. I have ideas on the kind of research that might answer those question. It uurns out that the flow is created by bio-electrical phenomena associated with structured water. Another question is how are the organs connected to the meridians too influence the flow in them when the organ is inflamed or degenerating like the French researchers say? hat will probably take CT scans to figure out. And what will breathing deeply do besides increasing you blood oxygen level? Will it increase the flow in the meridians?

At any rate, I hope you will learn something useful in these pages. I know there is much here you were not taught in school. If there is something you are having difficulty understanding, please let me know so I can clear it up. Namaste.

How is scientific acupuncture different than TCM?

I learned TCM in my training. It was an OK foundation. But aside from the training in Western anatomy and physiology, it was far from complete. The electro-acupuncture part was terrible. Just enough so you wouldn’t hurt anybody, but being an electrical engineer, I understood more than the teacher. The “basics” as I saw them were not covered. So I taught myself. But back to the subject at hand.

TCM has value in that it teaches you the traditional function of points, 5 element theory and how to needle safely.. That is its greatest value. The rest is of less value in my opinion. Why, you may ask? It is just the most valuable part in terms of giving a treatment. I still use TCM in my practice. Don’t get me wrong. But I have proved to myself that some of TCM is just wrong and some of it needs to be reinterpreted. Just a fact. But I do see them as good guidelines. The ideas on the flow of qi in the channels is where we have to understand anew. The science is clear and TCM has gotten some things wrong. In this at least, the schools have to change their curriculum. Although I think there is a lot more they need to change or add. I can’t be the only voice saying this. The community has to demand it.

Scientific acupuncture takes the understanding of autonomic functioning found in the function of points and in 5 element theory and combines it with our understanding of how the points work to come up with more effective needling techniques, a better appreciation of palpation, more diagnostic techniques and new treatments. Scientific acupuncture also incorporates Frequency Specific Microcurrent, allowing us to treat more conditions and also gives us the choice of treating some conditions with or without needles. That is handy when treating a condition like Plantar Fascitis. It is not fun to needle the heel of the foot. My Anti-Inflammation Electro-Acupuncture (AIEAC) worked well but you had to typically put two needles in the heel. But there is a protocol in FSM that works well too. It just will typically take more treatments. I am now learning how to do remote treatments with FSM. So long treatments such as PTSD can be done more easily. And it does seem to work. You just won’t get the effects of the microcurrent. And scientific acupuncture gives us more choices of treatments to choose from.

Recent Research

I have had a chance to try something new again. I have long wondered whether my AIEAC would work with just electrode pads to avoid using a needle at all. And the answer I got was YES! I thought is might because FSM does a similar thing especially for inflamed nerve roots. The big difference is the area that can be treated. In this case I was treating the bottoms of both feet that were red and from prior experience with him was inflammation due to a bad case of athletes foot. I had treated it successfully with the wound healing protocol in FSM with increasing the time on the pairs of frequencies that treated inflammation. So you can learn useful things just by doing. I have been doing that for 30 years. You want to learn how to do what I can do? Read my book or figure it out yourself if you can. But if it were that easy, I would not have been the first to figure all of this out. It was just a matter of having the right background, education and experiences to be able to put all the pieces together into a comprehensive whole.

My Critics

My critics complain my work is amateurish. I don’t have the resources to do “legitimate research”. I learn by doing. I think of things to try and do them. I have the background and interests to learn and do things no one else has thought of doing. So if you have an argument against my views, lets hear them. Not just general complaints. No one has had the guts or brains to argue against anything I have said. As far as the review on Amazon, if he was as smart as he claimed and actually read and understood what I wrote, he should have understood how I can treat a bone-on-bone joint. All the clues are there. And now I have tried it on a patient. And it is helping! It is not perfect yet, but that is the process. I know what to do to make it work better, and so far they are helping. Proof again I do know what I am talking about. I just know things that you don’t and have the brains to make good use of that knowledge. Again, if you have any argument against anything I claim, lets hear it. I am open to a good argument. That is how we learn. I’m not perfect. I make mistakes like everyone else. My memory is not perfect. I want to know where I have gotten something wrong. But reviewing what I have written on these pages, I have not found anything that I think is wrong. And I have yet to hear one argument against anything. Not one! Read everything I have written here. Then buy my book and try my treatments or learn about FSM and how much more you can do with it. Then spread the word. So we can help even more people. If you are part of a school, once you have convinced yourself of the truth of everything, adjust your curriculum accordingly. Join the revolution and help me make acupuncture a true science in people’s eyes and bring it into the 21st century. And teach Western Medicine a few things in the process. And stay tuned because there is more to come. My bone-on bone joint treatment is working. It just needs a few tweaks to make it work better. I am going to put many surgeons out of business by doing for under $1,000 what they think requires a ~20,000 surgery. And that is just one of the things I am working on. And even if I cant regrow an entire meniscus, I have already proved I can reduce pain an improve quality of life enough to avoid the need for surgery. And I am not just releasing endorphins (which I actually was hoping to also do) because it did not help her other knee which was surgically replaced. So I must be providing the joint with padding. There is no other explanation. So like everything else I do, I know exactly how it works. You can doubt me all you want. But the proof is in the doing. I am willing to put my time and money behind what I am saying. This website is proof of that.

Why I say Inflammation is Associated with an accumulation of negative charge.

There is no specific research that looked at this question directly that I know of. But according to Dr. Nordenstrom’s work, negative charge does attract water and since inflammation is associated with accumulation of water in the tissues, I thought it was likely that there would be a relationship. That was the realization that brought me to make up my Anti-Inflammation Electro-Acupuncture (AIEAC) treatment. And lo and behold, it worked! The question can best be answered when looking at treatment of an inflamed Achilles tendon or an inflamed meniscus or similar problem where you are needling directly into the inflamed tissue. In this case, if there wasn’t excess negative charge, just needling the point that way should make the problem worse, not better. This is an example of how doing a Chinese needling technique is not appropriate. Here the free electrons on the skin will add to the negative charge of the tissues and increase the inflammation. You could also be doing more damage. But needling into the inflamed tissue and then sucking the extra charge out of the tissues will cause an anti-inflammation effect. I have done this many times over the years and it worked every time. Doing it the way I teach, you will usually get initial pain relief from release of endorphins and then 2 or 3 hours later (but sometimes not until the next day) as the inflammation actually goes down you will get additional pain relief. So the fact that my technique works proves the proposition. Otherwise you could expect it to get worse by starting a degenerative process. But that is not what happens. And if it doesn’t work, you can assume it is not inflamed at all but a degenerating process or is torn or broken and you need to change your diagnosis and treatment approach. And I have developed an electro-acupuncture technique to treat partially torn tendons, etc. that also works. Again based on Dr. Nordenstrom’s work. So being an electrical engineer has proved to be very useful in my chosen profession. I explain how to do both techniques in my book.

Acupuncture doesn’t have to be mysterious.

When I was teaching electroacupuncture many of my students weren’t very interested in learning about the science. They liked the fact that traditional acupuncture was low tech. And they wanted to practice that way, despite my trying to explain the benefits of the “technology” of acupuncture in making their treatments work better and allowing them to do more. That is even more true now.

And then there is the language of TCM. For us practitioners, we by and large understand it but it is mysterious to lay people. But as I have explained elsewhere, even TCM needs to be reevaluated. Some of TCM beliefs are validated in these pages, but others have been shown to need to be reinterpreted and even some have been proven to be just wrong. You must come to terms with these facts. But that’s how science evolves. And the knowledge I am sharing on this site will make you a better and more competent practitioner. And if you buy my book and learn to do my treatments as well as FSM, you will learn how to treat more things than you currently can now or treat them better/faster.

You will find my explanations easy to understand and make sense. I wrote my book to share my knowledge. I built this site to make the basics available worldwide for free. I have let the schools know about my book and this site so they can learn and adjust their curriculum accordingly. Bringing East and West together is my gift to the acupuncture community. And it should bring us more acceptance in the medical community. And I am not done. In addition of the new treatments I describe in my book, I am working on several more. Like my bone-on-bone joint treatment I talk about elsewhere. And several d.c. treatments. And then there’s the basic research I want to do. So one way or another I will make acupuncture a true science and bring it kicking and screaming into the 21st century. So join me in the revolution or stick to the old ways of doing things and defend the indefensible.

Bone-on-Bone Joint Treatment

I have been working on a treatment for bone-on-bone joints. I think I have figured out how to regrow a meniscus (knee) and avoid an expensive joint replacement surgery. Doctors say it can’t be done, but I know all the science on how it can be done. It is not that complicated. You just have to know what I know to be able to put the pieces together.

Well, my bone-on-bone knee joint patient is still doing well. No pain at all unless she stands a long time or rides her exercise bike. Even then she recovers fast. It looks like we are re-growing the meniscus and providing cushion to the joint. She tried it on her other knee (replaced) and did not get any relief, so it is not causing a release of endorphins or it would have helped the other knee. And we grew enough cushion in 90 minutes (the first treatment) to get significant pain relief. Now it is the knee she had replaced that causes her the most pain. It appears there is inflammation around the kneecap. So I am starting to treat that too. It is very rewarding to see another of my treatments work even better than expected. I am just applying my engineering training to induce a phenomena that occurs naturally in the body under the right circumstances. And coming up with a better solution to an expensive problem. And do it at 40 times less money. And doctors think this is impossible, hogwash! They would rather have you undergo a $20,000 surgery! I can regrow thenough cushion to get significant pain relief in hours! And you can do it at home while watching TV! Isn’t that a better solution? And it took an acupuncturist/engineer to figure it out. I’m still working out some things to make it work better but so far so good.

An update. My treatment is still providing significant pain relief and improvement in quality of life. But is is not perfect, so I am looking at some adjustments to the treatment. And so far they are working. By changing toe position of the electromagnets, I have gotten more pain relief and she has been able to do things she couldn’t before. So the size and strength of the magnetic field is playing a role. I aalways knew that would be the case. So I am making the appropriate adjustments. I must conclude that the strength of the field is playing a role in laying down cartilage in the joint. By moving the electromagnets, we are providing more cushion in a different part of the joint. I will also try increasing the voltage which will increase the strength of the field. I’m working the problem with a willing patient. And the knee she had replacement surgery on is still hurting her more than the bone-on-bone knee so I must be doing something right. My challenge is to make it work better and easier to do.

Did you know any of this before reading it here or in my book?

I doubt it. Even after knowing the parts, it took me time to put it all together into a senible whole. So we have to thank the researchers that discovered the parts. Dr. Bjorn Nordenstrom for discovering electroosmosis. Drs. Darras and Devernejoul for visualizing the meridians. Dr. Robert Becker for his work on regeneration. The Japanese researchers for their work on the part the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems play. And of course the Chinese. I was just fortunate enough to be exposed to it all and have the background to be able to put it all together into a sensible whole. Fortunately none of it is hard to understand so it should be readily accepted by the acupuncture community. At least that is my hope. I have made the basics available to anyone for free here. You will have to buy my book to learn how to do my treatments. And I continue to make up more. My anti-inflammatory electro-acupuncture treatment works better than cortisone since you don’t have the limitations of cortisone. It is easy to do and only takes 15 minutes per point. And typically a point will only need 1-3 treatments. You will find the tenderness at the point diminish or disappear by the next treatment. I have been using it for over 10 years. It works great.

And I have an even bigger deal treatment that I am trying on a patient now. I am treating a bone-on-bone knee joint. Attempting to regrow the meniscus. Doctors say that is impossible. But I know exactly how it can be done. So far it has had a dramatic effect on pain. So I must be doing something right. And the patient can do it at home while watching TV or even while sleeping. So even if it only helps with pain, it will be a dramatic step forward treating bone-on-bone joints. And I’m working on other treatments as well. What have you done?
