Why do you see a degenerating disk near a history of an inflamed nerve root?

This is due to a charge related phenomena. The inflamed nerve root can cause the nearby disk to become polarized. This happens by the negative charge at the nerve root pushing away the electrons at the part of the disk nearest the inflammation (like charges repel). That makes that side of the disk nearest the inflammation to degenerate. The electrons that were pushed away held the disk material together. So, the missing electrons lead to degeneration. Now, there is an easy fix to this problem, where you can treat both problems at once. Just needle the jia ji point at the nerve root that is inflamed and the Du point at the degenerating disk. Then connect an Ion Pumping Chord to both needles in such a way so the excess electrons at the inflammation will go to the needle at the Du channel. Once there they will be attracted to the positive charge at the degeneration and neutralize it. That way you will treat both problems at once. Isn’t science fun?
